About Me And This Blog

A scientist by profession. A curious mind by nature.

I am a scientist by profession, but curiosity has always been my real occupation.
I have spent much of my working life asking questions about life, the human body and the wonderfully complicated business of being alive, health, nutrition and technology. Science taught me to look closely, to question what appears obvious, and to be comfortable with the fact that sometimes the most interesting answer is another question. Over the years, I have worked with the belief that science is at its best when it helps us understand the world we actually live in. It is not just some facts and figures to be stocked in the brain but it involves looking beyond individual discoveries and asking how they connect with health, food, the environment and, ultimately, with people.

Outside the laboratory, my curiosity tends to wander. Perhaps the trouble with curiosity is that it rarely stays where you leave it. A question about the body can lead to a question about the mind. A thought about nutrition can lead somewhere unexpected. A conversation about relationships can make me think about psychology, biology or the strange ways in which we understand ourselves. Some of these thoughts have been shaped by research and years of scientific experience. Others have come from reading, conversations, experiences and simply observing.

I like to think. I like to read. I like to observe people and the little dramas of everyday life. I love food, not merely for what is on the plate, but for everything that comes with it: culture, memory, health, pleasure and sometimes a very good argument. I am fascinated by the mind, by relationships, by why we behave the way we do, by spirituality, and by the strange and beautiful connections between things that, at first glance, seem to have very little in common.

And, of course, I love to write. “I write to make sense of what I know, question what I think I know, and follow the questions that remain.”
I write because some questions stay with me long after the conversation has ended.

This blog is where these wanderings find a home.
Years of being a scientist have taught me to observe closely, question freely and look for connections. Life outside the laboratory has taught me that not everything worth understanding can be measured in an experiment. People, relationships, food, the mind, the body, belief, beauty and the ordinary moments of everyday life have their own stories to tell.
This blog is a record of that journey. A place to bring together what I have learnt, what I continue to discover, and what I am still trying to understand.

I do not write with the certainty of having all the answers. I write because I enjoy the asking, the wondering and the occasional discovery that one good question can change the way we see something we thought we already knew.

I do not expect every musing to provide an answer. Some are here to inform, some to provoke thought, some to connect seemingly unrelated things, and some are simply here to make you smile. My hope is modest, in that somewhere along the way, a piece of writing might make you pause, it might make you curious, start a conversation, change a perspective or send you looking for an answer of your own.

Think of it as a table with many kinds of food on it. There is Food for Thought, Food for the Mind, Food for the Heart, Food for the Body and Food for the Soul. And, because life would be rather dull without them, there are Snacks and the occasional serving of Junk Food too.
Take what interests you. Question what doesn’t. Linger over something that makes you think.
And if something here sends you off on a thought of your own, then perhaps the musing has done its job.

“I have spent my life looking for answers. Writing gives me the pleasure of following the questions.”

If you look at what you have in life, you’ll always have more. If you look at what you don’t have in life, you’ll never have enough.

About Me

Scientist by profession. Curious by nature. Writer by inclination.

I like asking questions, following ideas down unexpected paths, eating good food, observing people and writing about the things that refuse to leave my mind.

Musings is a place for all of that.

Science, psychology, relationships, nutrition, spirituality, everyday life and the occasional piece of nonsense. Some thoughts need a proper meal. Others are best served as a snack.
